Tour de France

La Rochelle harbour by night

No I did not join cyclists for the competition of the Tour de France. Nevertheless, this September, I had quite the SIMS marathon around France.

First stop: La Rochelle and the SIMS 24 conference. It was a great pleasure to see old friends and make new ones during SIMS 24. I could also present part of my work at Texas A&M and introduce some people to the intricacies of NP-SIMS (nanoprojectile-SIMS). This conference also saw a musical event with a new version of the "Multivariates", the famous music band of the SIMS community. Playing the cello is always a great joy for me, but there it went to another level to share that passion, first with the group, but also with the whole community. Science brought us there, but music gathered us (maybe the cognac too).

Second stop: Lyon. I got invited to give a seminar at the Institut des Sciences Analytiques. It was a very nice opportunity to present some of my achievements in characterization using ToF-SIMS. It was also a nice moment to discuss the future of material characterization, especially in mass spectrometry imaging.

Third stop: Pau. There I visited the Institut des Sciences Analytiques et de Physico-Chimie pour l'Environnement et les Matériaux and gave a seminar on the same topic. There too the discussions around the future on the materials characterization, especially for batteries, were very exciting and promising for the future.

Last stop: Alsace. After that tour some rest is definitely needed to get fresh energy to go back to the lab.
